My old computer will not boot. I have the harddrive from it connected to my new Vista 64 bit computer through an adapter. Can I use the windows transfer program? I tried it but it seemed to want to copy thedata back to the harddrive...do I need two separate computers?

Solution
The file transfer wizard does usually expect two different computers, yes. If all you need is the data, it's easy enough to copy that over... the problem comes with recovering the programs you were running. Of course, the transfer wizard won't transfer those either...
