I currently have two 7900gt's in SLI.
With them I get currently get 15788 in 3dmark05 and games run fine.
Would it be faster and a smart Idea for free, just trading the two 7900gt's for 1 EVGA 8800gts 320mb?

7900GT in SLI is not worth trading for a single 8800GTS 320Mb. It's not an upgrade I say. It's merely DX10 win. For now, there are only a few title out for DX10 games.
It's wise to save your money and look for upgrade in the next 6-12 months later where 89XX or even 98XX comes out later.
If it's costing you little or nothing then go for it!, the 8800GTS is definitely an upgrade from two 7900GT's or a single GTO clocked @ GTX speeds for that matter.

Why would you spend money to fix something that already works fine?
I'd wait another year or so.
Edit: oops, did you mean the 8800 GTS is for free? Wow, where can I get one too? Anyway, why bother, better sell that 8800 GTS while you can still get good cash for it.
My advice for you would be to get by all means the 8800gts, be it BFG, XFX, Leadtek, EVGA or whatever, but grab the 640MB version...
It has already been proved that 320MB ddr3 could be insufficient for a mere 1280x1024 gameplay (high/ultra graphics that is)...check the Colin Mcrae Dirt demo...you need the bloody 8800gtx to run it smoothly...
I know it's just one example, and one on a dx9 game, not a dx10, so who knows what the future has in store for the little 320 MB sister...?
