I am installing Windows XP Pro on a custom built system with a quad-core Intel. If I install windows after it formats the drives and restarts it shuts off after the windows loading screen. I discovered this was due to windows installing the wrong Hal.dll file. If I force it to install the Hal file for an ACPI PC it will install windows but will only recognize one of the four cores in task manager while it displays four in both the system Bios and Device Manager. I have built this computer before and installed windows on it and know that it should be using Halmacpi.dll for ACPI multiprocessor PC. But if I attempt to force that Hal the computer shuts off after restart as well. I need help. Nothing I seem to attempt allows windows to install the proper hal.
