I'm running slackware 7 on my server right now. It is running IPmasterqurading providing Internet to the people downstairs. Problem is, they're using too much bandwidth. Everytime I want to download/upload something, it is always very slow.

I'm just wondering if there is a way to limit their upload/download speed with linux.

Thanks

What you are looking for is a shaper.
Check www.linuxdoc.org www.google.com/linux
and other resources by searching for shaper

You can also check these sites as they have some info and projects on the subject.

http://www.stewart.com.au/ip_relay/
http://freshmeat.net/projects/rshaper/
http://lwn.net/1998/1119/shaper.html

Hope it helps

Thanks for replying. From the resources you provided in your reply, I found out that shaper is supposed to be a kernel level program. Currently, I'm running Slackware 7.0 and I tried to type shapecfg or /sbin/shapecfg, and it said command not found. So is there a way to add shapecfg to my kernel?

I also downloaded rshaper from the linuxdoc.org site, and compiled the program. It gave me a rshaper.o module, and in the README, it said I need to add the module to the kernel. Now, I'm lost. How do I add the module to the kernel?

THanks
