Hi Experts.

I am facing a peculiar proble in my Laptop with OS as Windows-XP Professional.

Problem Description : When I insert the network cable in NIC connector (RJ-45 jack), message appears
"You may not be able to access the Internet or some network resources. This problem occured because
the network did not assign any network address to the computer."

And when I try to fix/repair it , it prompts : Windows can not finish repairing the problem because
the following action can not be completed. Renewing your IP address.

Why Peculiar : I have two OS/dual booting (Windows XP Professional with SP-4 and Windows 2000 Server) on my Compaq Presario Laptop for last 3 years and are working fine. Surprisingly, I face above problem when I try to connect th eInternet from Windows XP Professional OS but not when I boot the Laptop using Windows 2000 Server. It means, hardware resources viz. Network Cable, Network Card (Realtek family), Router, DHCP server etc.. are same and functional (in Windows 2000 Server). I am facing this problem for last 2-3 days.

Observation :

Command ipconfig not returning the desired output, juts gives the 169 series IP (and not a DHCP IP)
and subnet mask i.e. 169.254.61.141 255.255.0.0

Solution tried till now :

I have tried all the below but without any success :

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
Restarting of services - DHCP Client & DNS Client
Reboting of Laptop (many times)
Rebooting of DHCP Router

Please help to over come the problem of getting Internet connectivity from XP OS, preferrably
without reinstalling the complete OS :)) !!

Looking forward to have an expert advice soon.

Thanks in advance.
