I use pingplotter to check for packet losses and whenever i trace an ip that is from game servers (whether it be cs servers, quake, ut, any game) it tends to show alot of packet loss.
When i do a trace on websites like yahoo, google, altavista, etc etc or even laggier websites in europe/asia i BARELY get any packetloss, usually none, but 1%pl comes up in random hops once in a while. When tracing game servers i get atleast 2%pl in every hop and usually theres a hop with 20%+ pl....
Im completely noob with networking so.... any ideas
A lot of people are slamming those game servers with high volume data back and forth. Websites tend to expect high volume and can throw down the money to buy the best connection, whereas game servers most likely don't.
Not much you can do in this. Try running a tracert (trace route) to one of your game servers to see how many hops it takes to get to the game server compared to a website.
