im asking this because they considerably cheap, not a complain tho  .

maybe something simpler would be better?

if heard some great things about Gigaworks, and they say these 2.0 speakers are pretty good, although they are $15 more bucks than the 7.1 speakers..

In order to drive a speaker, you need an amp.... How else do you plan on driving a speaker?

The reason I ask, is because you can get a pair of nice bookshelf speakers for ~$90 if you already have an amp.

If not, then I guess anything off the CompUSA shelf will work for you... If you can live with that. Just buy what ever you think is a good deal. Its all about the same when it comes down to PC budget speakers.

ok you can but i dont need to have one to get a couple of speakers and a PC to work. So i was looking for ones that can work w/o an amp.

There is no such thing. In order to produce sound, you have to move a mass/air. In order for a mass to move, it needs some way to do it. IE an amplifier for a speaker.

Those you listed have built in amps.

You asked me for something good/midrange. An amp and some bookshelf speakers are just that.

clob is saying if you buy a "all-in-one" box for $90, you are paying for an amp , the speakers, plus little desktop decor. For $90 you could get a much better speaker. I would postulate for $90 you can get something that's several times better than a $90 PC speaker.

In fact, it will be *measurably* at least twice as good in some areas, and probably 10 times as good in some areas. (see, I'm not saying "in my opinion here", real performance measurements graphs can be produced)

The downside is it will probably be a little bigger and take up more desk space.

So the question is--convenience or sound quality?
