Recently, Windows Explorer has been crashing while trying to navigate folders and do anything with my files on both my main Gaming Rig and my Laptop but only after the GPU's get used. Both systems have Vista Home Premium x64, the main rig has been upgraded to SP2 (it started doing it shortly before I upgraded it to SP2) and the laptop is still on SP1.

It always happens after playing a game or doing something similar. Doesn't matter if it's Crysis or StepMania. It happened on my laptop just from watching TV through Media Center. If I restart the computers, they are both fine till I run a game or the like. I'll play GRID, DiRT, Crysis, F.E.A.R. 2, Team Fortress 2, it doesn't matter, Explorer will likely crash shortly after while I'm navigating folders. And if I watch TV or play StepMania on the laptop, it'll do it too even if I put it into sleep and bring it back up.

However I don't think that watching video seems to affect either one aside from watching TV on the laptop. I've run 720p H.264 .mkv files through Zoom Player without having the issues afterwords.

I first thought it was caused when I upgraded my main rig's GeForce 8800GT to a GTX 275 but then my laptop started doing the same thing. It wasn't long after the main rig started doing it, that I noticed that the laptop was doing it too.

The two are also considerably different.

Main Rig:
ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe (nForce590 SLI)
AMD Athlon X2 6000+ Windsor
4GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800 RAM
EVGA GeForce GTX 275 896MB
SoundBlaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Profess1onal

Laptop:
HP Pavilion dv7 1260US
AMD Turion X2 RM-74
4GB DDR2 800 RAM
ATI Radeon HD3200
IDT High Definition Audio

So what do y'all think is the problem and how can I fix it? Thanks for any help!

OK, scratch the part about Videos not affecting it. All I've done since my main rig's last boot was watch H.264 video in Zoom Player. No games or other 3D apps. I know that the GPU is used in video playback so I guess that anytime the GPU is used beyond normal 2D mode, I get the problem and again, that's on both my ATI based laptop and my nVidia based gaming rig.

Well, I may just reinstall Vista on the main rig since a coupla other problems are showing up. Actually one's been around a while that I've just ignored (takes it a while to get situated when booting). It was a good run though. Never expected this install of Vista to last over a year and a half. Heck my copy of Vista is pre SP1.

Actually I may put Windows 7 RC on here since it did perform pretty well on the Test install I did on one of my spare drives (3DMark Vantage score went up by 800 points or so).
