OK. I got a PCI wireless card. Installed it and drivers AND a "utility" program that helps configure the setup. So I got the card configured and everything worked fine. Except the config utility is in my systray and I want to get rid of it. So I tried to disable setup utility in MSCONFIG and think that I will just manually configure the setup. Problem is is that now when I go to VIEW AVAILABLE WIRELESS NETWORK CONNECTIONS everything is greyed out and it won't do anything. So I decide to uninstall software. Uninstalled. Boot. New device pops up. I install driver. OK. Everything lookslike it will work. Go to "Show available wireless network" and the thing is greyed out.
Basically, what I think happened is that this "utility" somehow overrides the MS configuration(s). But now the only way I can get the damn thing to show the available networks is to have the "configuration utility" running in the background. I'd like to get rid of the config utility and simply configure the setup through windows but I think the utility must not be uninstalling fully. I suppose I can just leave the utility running but hate to do that because it just isn't functioning "right" Anyonw have a solution to this?
Yeah. I know I SHOULD be able to. I downloaded SP2 and it looks like I will have to use the Wireless Zero Config utility whatever that is. Uggg. There goes the weekend!
A couple of my Netgear cards came with software and after using it once, just used the Window Wizzards, wuick and easy to use. The only problem I have with it is that I can never remember where you can reconnect a connection if necssary
