I am currently putting a new computer together, and I will need an OS to install. I still have a hard copy of Windows XP Professional from my previous computer and I wanted to know if I would be able to install it on this new computer or if the license won't allow me. I know there are limitations to how you can use the operating system, but I'm not sure what they are exactly. Please note that both computers are mine and are for my own personal use.
If I can't install XP on this new computer, is there any solution to my problem besides buying Windows XP Professional again? Are there any alternative operating systems that you would recommend?

If you're planning on transferring the license to the new machine thats 100% acceptable to Microsoft, you'll probably have to go the telephone activation route to get it activated, but you're only allowed to have the license installed on one computer.
