Hi everyone,

Just finished building a new PC, everything is working fine but I can not get my OS working. Both Vista and 7 freeze during "Expanding Files" or "Installing Updates". Any ideas? And yes I have googled it, nothing that I found has worked.

Heres a quick summary of my build...

Phenom 550 x2 Black Edition 3.1GHz

XFX Radeon 1GB DDR5 4870

Gigabyte 770 Motherboard

Mushkin 4GB 1600 DDR3

Thanks !

Install with another CDs and if the processor is overcloked put to defaults....

I've had the same problem with all versions of windows vista / 7 for some time but have now solved the problem!

I was initially side tracked by trying to diagnose a hardware issue but in the end adjusting the settings in the bios was all that was required.

I loaded optimized defaults then disabled as many features as possible. In particular settings relating to onboard features and hard drives. As I disabled a number of features I’m not sure what eventually solved the problem – I suspect maybe onboard sound.

Once installed re-enable features one at a time.

Hope this helps
