WinXP does not auto update, even though it should!
Hi, running winxp sp3. Was a new install only a few months ago (monitor problems)

Recently, when i turn it off, i get the option to install, or to shut down without installing. There is the one update.

So, i click on install, and it supposedly does it, but when i reboot it, and shut it down the next time, it still shows the one update.

I have avg free, superantispyware, and even when i disable those, it still doesnt work!

I got a bit paranoid about security, so i downloaded malaware antibytes (or something like that) It found a couple of trojans, and then i got rid of these, then ran avg and SAS

All help much appreciated!
Still the latest install wont work!! FCKKN stupid MS, or am i the retarded one?

Every so often various MS updates refuse to install. They will display exactly the same problems you are experiencing, install then reboot but still appear on the update list.

Can you provide the name of the update... it should read KB*******.

Odds are that you are not the only one experiencing this problem.

The failed update should show up in the event manager.
