Hi,

A week ago i have bought an 8600gt graphics card from foxconn. And i have noticed some artifacts in some games. But now in far cry and oblivion i sometimes have lock-ups for about 20-30secs and then it goes on, but with weird textures :? Like bright colors or things that arent supose to be there. Sand turned into a wooden floor once in oblivion.

So i thought, maybe its the PSU. I had an HEC power master 350W (should be enough because a 8600gt can run of a 300W)... But i thought maybe i can switch it with the one out of my sisters pc (a 400W psu .. cheap, but has more amps on the +12V) But artifacts still remain :(
i also have tried to cut of the xtra fans and dvd-drive to save some power, but it didn't worked.

So please help me out, i don't know what to do about it anymore.

specs from psu label:
400W
+5 V - 30 A
+12 V1 - 14 A
+12 V2 - 15 A
-12 V - 0.8 A
+3.3V - 28 A
+5 VSB - 2.5 A

Owyeah forgot to mension that i have the latest drivers installed (running winXP) 158.22

And that the OC on my cpu doesn't have any voltage increases, so no xtra power going there.

I assume you're not overclocking the card? If not, and it's not getting too hot, then it sounds like the card is faulty. You should probably RMA it.

Well for example playing bf2142 and HL2 i don't have problems with this, so thats the weird thing about it.

But i don't read other people complaining about this, so it's probably not a driver problem

Thnx for you help :)

I found out that oblivion only crashes with grass distance on full :?
Then i start getting artifacts and colored dots and it eventualy freezes for 20sec and then it gets back all messed up, with letters being squares, my crosshair becomes a square :?

I can still remember i had problems like this with my old G6600 also

Sounds like a bad gfx card to me. More specifically the ram modules in the gfx card, either way, call foxconn for a RMA.

Dont know what i want to show with this picture :? its just weird

I have updated my drivers to the 158.27 beta for winXP, still the same (as you can see in the screens)

Artifacts always mean bad card. You'll get lockups, BSOD, etc from power problems, but artifacts like you say are almost always card-related. Judging from the pics and the skin corruption, this could also be an aftereffect of bad memory. I'd RMA :)

BTW that last pic from Oblivion looks a lot like a picture taken from a microscope! Fun!

Well i just RMA'ed it back to the shop an hopefully i have a new one by this friday.

But isn't the combined V12+ in this case the (+12V1)+(+12V2) = total ?
So that i have in total 29A on the +12V?

And about the last picture  let's just say it doesn't add anything to the game experience :(

nope, doesnt work like that.

if you go to the power supply section opf the forums, you will see a post called PSU101 and 102 or something like that. Its a sticky right at the top...you cant miss it. Just read that, it explains eeevvvrrryything.

oh and best of luck with the RMA :)

edit: ah heck im in a good mood, so here ya go: http://forumz.tomshardware.com/hardware/PSU-101-102-ftopict198276.html

beat this

coh5lg7.jpg

and thats driver related.

When i've had bad vram(and i have :( ) there where polygons(picture spikes all over the place) ALLLL over the place and even desktop corruption.

Power may well be an issue. Do keep in mind that card uses less than 4amps(~3.6ish) on its own so if the rest of the system is not that hungry then you may just need to RMA(its not like you have anything to loose).

I too was under the impression that adding the 12v amperage was the total and could be counted as such. I've had multiple opinions on it as well. Either way I'm going to be getting a PC Power and Cooling PSU shortly since my 580watt Hyper PSU probably won't be good enough for an 8800 and all my extra crap ;)
