Bad crash

I just set up a big Modo render to go, and was drifting off to sleep, and I realized my system was no longer running. When it starts, it goes back to a problem I had about a month ago where XP would freeze at the appearance of the XP splash screen; all drive activity stops and the keyboard & mouse go dark. I tried the F9 start in safe mode and start in last know good config; both produce the same results.

I may be hearing different beep codes from my MSI P35 Neo2-FR mobo; I usually hear low-high-high-low at startup, but now am hearing only two beeps (high-high).

Somehow I just got it to start, there was a prompt to hit ESC during safe mode start, and I had it start from last known config, and it appears to be starting.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what I may be up against? I'd bet this monster is far from gone.
