Fixing xp media

i just got a dell frome a friend with xp media, when i go to windows updates it goes to the google home page,it won,t let me in to some sites it comes up with OOPS cant find site it will download some programes and ather,s it will start and won,t finish and comes up with a message

Sounds like the Conficker Virus.

They still don't really know what the conficker does. Pretty hard to point at that as cause.
