Ive installed a DVD RW in place of my CD RW but it wont work.It only plays CD not DVD What have i done wrong?

Put in a DVD, go to my computer, double click the DVD drive. What happens?

Try downloading VLC media player. Right click on the dvd drive-->open with-->VLC. what happens here?

They generally either work or don't work. If it's playing cd's, you've got it hooked up right. It could be an autorun problem, media player problem, or bad drive.

double clicking on the DVD drive will rule out the autorun issue
downloading VLC will rule out the media player issue

If neither work, you should return the drive.

Install the Klite codec pack.
Be sure to include the Mpeg2 codec.
Xp wont play DVDs without it.
