Symantec Wont Install

I'm trying to download and install Symantec Antivirus Corporate edition from my college's website, and for some reason it wont install. Im using XP x64 but there was no 64 bit listed for XP so i chose the Vista x64 download. It unzips and does all that part of the installation, but then a popup says "Please go to control panel to install and configure system components"

I googled this and came up with MANY answers, but none that applied and worked for me. I've deleted 3 registries that contained things likely to cause it, and im worried about those, but really just want antivirus at the moment. Please help me.

Contact the college's IT department for help. I doubt symantec for Vista is going to work correctly on XP.

Do you know of any free virus programs that work well for xp x64?
