I've been having some serious problems recently with vista 64 Ultimate. My issues start when i go to play any video my system hangs, then the mouse skips, freezes, and keeps freezing and unfreezing, HDD activity goes through the roof. Sometimes I will see discoloration in the mouse pointers or it will be distorted severely in one way or another. In other cases the display driver will fail completely and recover itself a few seconds later.
*edit* also getting "nvlddmkm stopped responding" error during driver failure
I've tried numerous different driver versions, and did a fresh install of vista 64 ultimate and the problem has persisted.
I'm running on E for ideas, and about to scrap my GTX 285.

It's either the card itself or a driver issue. Try updating your mobo's BIOS and your chipset drivers... as those can sometimes cause video card issues as well.
