I've been having some serious problems recently with vista 64 Ultimate. My issues start when i go to play any video my system hangs, then the mouse skips, freezes, and keeps freezing and unfreezing, HDD activity goes through the roof. Sometimes I will see discoloration in the mouse pointers or it will be distorted severely in one way or another. In other cases the display driver will fail completely and recover itself a few seconds later.

*edit* also getting "nvlddmkm stopped responding" error during driver failure

I've tried numerous different driver versions, and did a fresh install of vista 64 ultimate and the problem has persisted.

I'm running on E for ideas, and about to scrap my GTX 285.

Sound like the graphics card if there is discolouration if you have another one to test with it will rule out any other part on your computer.

I Tested my 3 ram sticks individually, unplugged my optical drive for the hell of it with no luck.

I also did another fresh install, and there are no problems before drivers are loaded so i'm thinking it has to do with a 3D acceleration problem

it would be anything to do with your ram as i said the problem lyes with the Grphics card itself!

yeah, i got that the first time you suggested it.

I like to do a few tests before throwing out a 400 dollar card.

It's either the card itself or a driver issue. Try updating your mobo's BIOS and your chipset drivers... as those can sometimes cause video card issues as well.
