I'm looking to put together a C2D system and need some advice on which stuff to get. I will need to purchase cpu, mb, and ram for the new system. I already have everything else in my old system. I am looking for the best stuff to use and keep the price under $300 after all rebates. I am not really into overclocking at all so I want best performance i can get within the 300 dollar budget. I will be using this for gaming(BF2, STALKER, Crysis when it comes out) mostly along with data sheets and basic internet.

Basically I will be using an IDE cd/dvd burner, Aspire case, EVGA 7800 GT pci express graphix card, and a 500 watt Ultra power supply. My harddrives will be ide also but I would like to have the option for sata in the future. Also, I've seen deals for DDR2 800/667 RAM for less than 80 bucks for 2 gigs. Want to keep it under 300 and still have C2D with 2 gigs ram.

I basically really need advice on what version of the cpu to get for gaming with little to no overclocking and still fall within budget. My 300 price limit is after rebates.

RAM - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145015 $70 Could save $10 but this is smokin for the price, I have this and will be getting more next week. It will OC well if you want.

MOBO - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128017 $100

Proc - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115013 $115

Shipping $15

Total - $300

This advice is very good and fits the OP's budget, but there is a major problem with it. The OP mentions having ide DVD-RW AND ide hard discs. The Gigabyte 965 S3 has only 1 ide connector! The only solution that i know that still fit his budget is to get this mobo for $60:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157107

Either that, or get ide to sata converters for his hard discs, for $18 each (with shipping):

I would strongly suggest to follow the Asrock mobo path. The ide to sata adaptors are solutions with dubious results.
