The "Details" view offers many different columns for customization. If you find a particular combination useful and want to reuse it, the changes must be applied to each folder individually.

Is there a utility that can save and restore the layout?

Further considerations:
1) A "Folder Template" editor would be one solution, however, it wouldn't help in a root directory (such as a mapped folder on a network drive).

2) Hopefully it would also be independent of "Folder Tasks": using "Windows Classic Folders" doesn't waste space when the folder pane is closed.

3) It should not be restricted to subfolders.

Only if all folders should be the same. Folders for video, photos, and Office documents are all quite different.
