Upgrade win xp media center to xp pro

can one upgrade from xp media center to xp pro without having to reinstall programs? we have some obsolete software which we would like to be able to transfer from one computer to another, and that would be easier if both were running xp pro which is now easier to obtain than media ed.thanks nicholas
