my c drive for some reason is full. when I deleted 23g of files and defrag within a few hours the c drive showed 450mb instead of 23g. I deleted more files and the same thing keeps happening. I've ran virus scan and nothing. what could be doing this and how can I fix it.

using gateway w/vista home premium, 500gb hard drive and using maxtor backup w/1T

Sounds like a some log files filling your hard drive or either a Virus which isnt being picked up by your anti virus software.

What anti virus package are you using?

If youre fairly certain that your computer is in good shape you cant delete some of your system restore points and get a lot of space back.
