Hi All,

I saw something really strange last night with the Tcase temperature on a C2D E6700 running on an ECS PN2 SLI2+ mobo.

I was running Prime 95 for a bit, and TCase and both TJunction temps were fine, as read through both TAT and SpeedFan. I left the room for about 5 minutes, then heard SpeedFan start beeping (I've got temp alarms set in it). I went back, and the Tcase temp was 103C!!!!!! I verified this in nVidia monitor, which read similar (107C). Both Tjunction temps were where they had been before (about 58C).

After the initial shock wore off, I wasn't overly worried, because I figured it had to be some sort of invalid read for whatever reason, since the machine had not exploded or shut down and because the Tjunction temps were fine. I killed Prime 95, and saw the TJunction temps subside to about what I would expect for my machine at idle. Interestingly, the Tcase temp dropped by about the same amount as Tjunction, which is what you'd expect for the C2D, according to the Core 2 Duo Temperature Guide that's a sticky on this forum.

It just seems like somehow an offset got spontaneously applied to Tcase. I rebooted the machine and it was fine. No harm done expect it did scare me for about 10 seconds!

Any body else seen this?

Jeff

Yup. The Aux temp in speedfan fluctuates between -30C and 125C for me - up and down. I just disable it so is doesn't show or produce warnings.

Thanks, Brendan. I haven't seen mine fluctuate that badly, and I've only seen the one instance of any fluctuation, but if it starts to happen regularly, I might disable mine, too.
