Hello, everyone im new to the forums but I have been using toms hardware.com for a while now and love it.

I hope you can help me choose a new computer setup because Im not to familiar in this area with the new technology coming out, but I do alot of online gaming, I play cs 1.6 which doesnt take much resources, but I want a new pc that can handle all the upcoming games, etc.

-Intel or AMD, not sure which is better. I dont plan on overclocking a whole lot but wouldnt mind doing it a little.

-I already have:

-Case
-IDE CD/DVD Drive
-600w power supply
-pci-e video card

Max: 600$, but would like to spend around $500.
So I need everything else that completes a gaming system, I really do apprehiate all of your help and trust your word. Thanks for taking your time to read my post.

what kind of video card do you have currently?

From what I have read the Intel Core 2 cpus are the kings right now so you should probably go for those, but they do come a price premium.

AMD still makes good CPUs and their prices are good so if your on a limited budget you should look into getting an AMD cpu.

cant really say much about the video card because you say you have one already, but you would need at least an nVidia 8600 or higher or one of the new ATI R600 cards to play *all* of the upcoming games.

A good source for comparison would be to use the VGA charts, CPU charts and so on on toms hardware to gather more knowledge on the subject
