i plan on buying the best cpu spec available
on air cooling with the lowest budget possible
if anybody sees something wrong in it, i would like to know
limit spec is 3.7ghz C2D architecture with 4mb total cache
( not looking at quads as they must be watercooled )
smallest CPU with 4mb cache is the 6320 7x266 = 1.86
to reach 3731mhz, it needs a fsb of 533mhz
so i need PC2-8500 1066mhz ram.
i need a board with a 533 mhz reliable support.
Asus P5K seems to be a good reliable one.
there i go with the hard questions. i have a 120MM Zalman 7700-CU
is it compatible with the P5K board... ???
optimisation question... at the same CPU frequency, will i get better performance using a higher fsb ?
example :
using 622*6= 3730mhz 1250mhz ram
instead of 533*7 = 3730mhz 1066mhz ram
what difference would it be to use 800mhz ( fsb400 )
and a 533mhz fsb on CPU (533x7)
thats rather ambitious (although not impossible) goal of 3.7Ghz air.
I have what is arguably a very high performance water cooling system and it will run 3Dmark06 (15,204) at 3.73Ghz, but would I trust it day in day out....NO. Here is a a comparison I did comparing a E6400 to upcoming Penryn with 1333FSB and higher. C2D performance scaling
There are a lot of variables and interactions of different components that simple specs don't show until you do the build. FSB's above 500 again while not impossible are tricky to get stable.
