Im building for the first time in 4 years. Goal is $999 or less with shipping.

The power supply I was considering was this:

Silencer 610 $158

Anyone have experience with this? I wanted something quiet, reliable, and without the SLI dual rails. I want one good solid line to run 1 video card.
I don't know anything though, this is a stab in the dark for me.

Is this sucker overkill for my intended system? I worry about stuff like a PSU going bad and pulling too much power, and starting a fire.

But this thing is pretty pricey for a PSU.

This is likely what it would support, I've chosen these components generally, though I'm not yet FINAL on that as the board is a new change I need to consider.

Gigabyte ga-p35c-ds3r $177

e4300 $115

That's a high quality unit, it's not overkill at all for your system either. You can't go wrong with a Silencer.

Thanks, Im a complete noob about technical things, but it just seems to me that of all the parts on my computer the PSU is the least glitzy and the one you'd like to cut corners on.

It just seems to me though, that the one part controlling the electricity for everything else should be the best made part you can get, and if it means you have to get lesser parts elsewhere, like the e4300 to do it, then so be it.

Just doesn't seem wise to cut corners on the PSU.
