I installed an EVGA 8800 GTS 640mb card a few days ago, replacing a X1900 XTX. All the ATI drivers were cleaned out and the latest Nvicia drivers installed, version 158.22. Now, any time I try to open the Nvidia monitor, Ntune, or the Nvidia control panel, I get an instant crash. Any ideas as to what to try?
My system specs are:
ASUS A8n32SLI Deluxe
FX60 cpu
EVGA 8800 GTS 640mb
X-FI platinum
2 gig Corsair ram
Thermaltake Toughpower 700wt psu
Ntune is pure The S word I own an 8800GTX and have a 680I mobo so i use Ntune to check my temps and Volts but after the lastest batch of 1.58.XX Drivers nothing works, 100.XX worked with Ntune no problems but 158.XX no way.
Give it up to Nvidia to fix one of their programs to screw up another.
About the only thing i can recommand is installing th 100.XX drivers first then Ntune, THEN upgrading to 158.45 which will make Ntune atleast work if not fully.
Did you remove the X1900XTX driver with a program like Driver Cleaner? Sometimes the normal uninstall does not fully remove the driver and if that is the case, once you load the Nvidia driver it could have all kinds of problems.
No, I haven't done that. I only ran the uninstall utility. Will give driver cleaner a try. I'm also running into script errors all over the place while on the net. Don't know if that's part of the problem or something separate. I did do a run on 3DMark06 and scored 8562, which was an improvement over my old card.
Ok, I ran Drive Cleaner and still have the problem. I try to open the Nvidia Control Panel and I get a hard lock-up. Any other ideas?
Xazaz, I haven't found a listing on a 100 driver yet. I'll keep looking for one of those and if I find one, I'll try it. Seems stupid that the drivers are so screwed up that the utilities don't work right.
At this point I would team with EVGA support www.evga.com and get a support ticket started. Could be a faulty video card or a conflict with something in your system. You might want to try and remove any add in cards to see if that helps, just as a troubleshooting precaution.
mmm, i say back-up whatever files you need on a CD-ROM of Flash Drive and just Reformat and Reinstall windows.
Be a good idea to get Ntune from Nvidia.com then 158.22 Drivers
I got Ntune from Nvidia and the 158.22 drivers when I was doing the install. I tried uninstalling them and reinstalling, but it made no difference. I'm beginning to think there's a serious conflict somewhere, but I don't know where. Might be a bad card, but will explore that possibility tomorrow.
