Howdy folks

I just downloaded the latest Vista 64 bit drivers for my 8800GTS 320MB. Now, before anyone says card, at least hear me out.

The only two games (so far) that have given me grief are Vanguard: Saga of Heroes and Battlefield 2142 (to a lesser extent) under Vista 64 bit.

I used the same card in a previous machine with WinXP Pro and I didn't have any problems.

The problem is that I get flickering on screen in both games, as if certain Polygon panels (don't ask me the technical term, I can only describe what it looks like) are flashing. It's really bad when I start up, and tends to die down as the game goes on, but there are still little bits that continue to flicker throughout.

I had hopes that the latest release driver would have fixed this, however I'm still getting the same issues.

Is there anything I can do or any advice on what to do? Other than those two games I get no flickering. There's no other problems with the graphics (well, Vanguard will blue screen, but that's Vanguard), but I'd REALLY like to get rid of the flickering. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

i read somewhere that EA's battlefield just doesnt run on vista very well. you might wanna look into that.

what other games do you play?? and you dont see any problems with them??

if so, then id say its a vista compatibility issue, but im not 100%.

Go back to the previous version of the drivers - it may be that an optimisation that NVidia is using is causing this, which may not have been present in previous driver versions.

I use vista 64 ultimate with bf2142 with no problems, there are issues out there with it, from having to run bf2142 in administrator mode and haveing to completly uninstall it and starting again.
For the latter is as follows :
Uninstall bf2142
Reinstall BF2142
(Apply Patch 1.2 only if u have northern stike)
(Install nothern Strike)
Apply 1.25 Patch
register the punkbuster service manually dont have the link as i am in work and the proxy has blocked me :P
Then update the punk buster files by using the punkbuster updater, search google for the punk buster website.
and BF2142 will work fine.
as for the video card well are u overclocking it?
what drivers are u using for it?

The drivers I'm using are the latest release drivers form Nvidia (Released 2 June 07). I tried using the Beta drivers in the past and had nothing but grief.

I found Half Life 2 ran awesome in 64 bit mode. I really haven't played much else, as Vanguard and BF2142 were really the only ones that seemed to interest me.

I don't do any overclocking as I'm one of those unlucky ba....er....persons that seems to blow up what he's doing when he tries something he shouldn't hehe.

My system spec is as follows:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+
4 GB Kingston Hyper X DDR2800 RAM
ASUS M2N-E Motherboard
Western Digital 250GB Sata II w/ 16 MB Cache
ASUS 8800GTS 320MB
Creative X-FI Extreme Music

I've got that all into an Antec Super Lanboy, with an Antec Spot Cool to help with the cooling as well as a Zalman 9500 CPU Cooler to help keep things safe on the processor side of things.

I've had no shut downs, Vista 64 bit Ultimate has been working great other than the fact that those two games give me a little bit of grief (the flickering is bad in BF2142 when it first starts but seems to die down a bit after playing a bit, but doesn't disappear completely.)

Send the card back, if the driver roll back does not fix it.

device manager>disply device>8800>driver roll back
