Powell gets and A from me in his approach to VOIP, Ultra Wide Band, WiFi
and WiLan and an A+++ in opening the 70 to 80 GHz spectrum to incredible
point to point fiber killing wireless access at multiple Gbps speeds.

There is no middle ground. Powell gets an F in digital TV. He ignored
the obvious problems with our digital TV modulation and tried to force
consumers to pay for something they do not want, need and that does not
work. That is an 8-VSB TV receiver in all TV sets.

The US digital TV transition is stagnant while the UK, just for one
example, sold 1.5 million digital TV receivers in the 4th quarter of
2004. They have sold six million receivers in the first two years of
their digital transition and will sell five million more in 2005 for a
total of 11 million COFDM digital TV receivers.

Since the UK is one sixth the size of the US a similar sales rate in the
US would have produced the sale of 66 million receivers in the last two
years. But the US has been at this for SEVEN years.

Our digital transition which requires that 85% of homes have digital TV
by 2006 would have been OVER by now if we had been selling a receiver
that worked, worked easily plug and play, was inexpensive, worked with
current analog sets as well as HD or digital sets AND had been selling
such receivers (similar to the ones being sold in the UK) for the last
seven years.

Even after SEVEN years our receivers cost between $200 and $600 while in
the UK receivers that work far better are selling in convenience stores
for as little as $37.

Powell deserves and F in Digital TV. Never has he asked the question
what is best for the American consumer.

Ho-hum. The same childish distortions and lies that got you thrown off the
AVS forum five years ago.
