First and foremost I want to thank in advance the helpful replies I'm sure I will get here.
Question:
I currently have 5 500GIG SATA 1.5Gbps hard drives in my computer which shows as 5 separate drives on windows explorer.
I heard that I could create a "SATA RAID" and make it work as one 2.5 Terrabyte drive, which is my dream since I have data all over the 5 separate drives and its the biggest pain and waste of time to go through all of them to find something.
I'm a home user and this is not for business purposes by the way.
I started looking around for a solution and I came across something that seems exactly what I need but I'm not sure and since my budget is limeted I need to make sure I get it right the first time.
Also, should the enclosure Support Hot-Swap?
PS: I would NOT like to have the operating system installed in any of the 5 hard drives in the external enclosure, they would be used just as STORAGE. I would have a separate hard drive for the operating system!
What I would like to have:
I'm on a very low budge of $300 and anything above I would have to wait a bit longer to buy it, BUT
I want something good and reliable so if I have to wait I would although I'm ready to buy now.
I would be really happy if I could only spend $200 max though but I don't think it will be possible!
I would like to have a USB external box in which I could just plug my 5 hard drives and see it in my computer as one big 2.5TB drive PS: If not all 5 HD's at least 4 if the price is right.
Something reliable and where my data would be safe.
I do not want any solutions to have it work inside the computer as it's getting too hot and I prefer to have them in an external enclosure!
I don't necessarily need to buy any of the enclosures or PCI card above, so if you have a suggestion of a better or maybe better and cheaper enclosure and card it will be greatly appreciated!!!
I thank you very much for your help once again and I hope I can be buying this babe as soon as possible
