Winxp: user logs in and out

I ran an antivirus earlier today before windows started up and after it was done running i tried to log in. It logs in for a few secs, i see the desktop start to load, then it logs out and and saves the settings. I have tried chkdsk, restore old settings, and i am unable to get into safe mode, or even safe mode with the prompt. Anything would be helpful.

Just solved it by reading some other forums any how the one fix i kept reading about using "COPY USERINIT.EXE WSAUPDATER.EXE" didnt work for me, i kept getting file not found. So I kept reading through forums and found another post with another fix that did work.

Just extract the userini.ex_ from your XP installation CD to c drive then copy the file back to c:\windows\system32

step1: expand d:\i386\userinit.ex_ C:\

step2: copy c:\userinit.exe c:\windows\system32\

It should work.

That is the fix that worked for me anyhow.
