Unless your case will fit ONLY a micro PSU, you should be able to replace the standard ATX PSU in your case with any standard ATX unit.

Read up on the sticky PSU 101-102 at the top of this category. Here are some recommendations from that sticky:

Difficult to say since a specific Pavilion model is not referenced (or I didn't see it), there is a strong resemblance to this Pavilion a6000y and HP PartSurfer says the PSU is # 5188-2625 which cross-referenced to this Bestec ATX-300-12Z CDR unit which appears to have standard ATX dimensions of 140L x 150W x 86H mm / 5.5" x 5.9" x 3.4".

A $50 budget will not get you a very quality unit, and for less than $20 more there is a killer deal on the Enhance ENP-5150GH 500W unit which is top quality and only $69 w/ free shipping don't pass this deal up it is excellent. check this Silverstone Element ST50EF-PLUS 500W review it is the same exact unit.

would these being from that list run my X1950 pro good?

I've put 550Watt Trupower Neos in HP a1x00 series Pavilions before. Shouldn't be a big deal at all changing the PSU in your series either.

Some of the much older HPs would have microATX PSUs or a short standard ATX PSU. Using shorter optical drives allowed you to use normal ATX PSUs in place of the stubby ones :)

I can't see any reason as to why you couldn't upgrade your current PSU with a more powerful one.Your case is a standard midi-case,any standard ATX powersupply should fit, even the high wattage ones.Goodluck.

But my Pavilion is only up to 400W Max, if I upgrade to 450 W, will I be risking my PC?

get a hyper 580W type - m, cheap, standard size, perform well

Not at all.The max wattage is just what the max temporary output is for your psu.Go for a bigger one and play to your hearts content.Goodluck.

That's what I'm running -

Hiper 580w modular cables dual 12v

I've oc'd my 5200x2 to 3.01Ghz and 7600GT to 600/715

All without a hiccup from the PSU
