This post is for the non regulars to this newsgroup who may come here
searching for a way to get the Super Bowl in HD.
If your cable provider doesn't carry FOX in HD and you want to watch
the Super Bowl in HD there is a solution, Buy an over-the-air HD tuner!
Everyone has a Walmart somewhere close by, Walmart carries the US
Digital brand 8VSB HD tuner for right at $200:
Not all stores carry this, so you may have to call a few stores to find
it. Having an over-the-air HD has some beneifts: If your cable goes out
you have a back up, the quality of over-the-air HD exceeds what most
cable providers are offering, in addition to the HD DTV channels you'll
also be able to pick up DTV feeds for all your local networks providing
digital, unlike NTSC broadcast you a powered in-door antenna will
usually do the job (see http://www.antennaweb.org/aw/welcome.aspx for
your specific needs )
Walmart has a very liberal return policy. While I don't advocate taking
advantaging of Walmart, I don't see any harm in trying something out
and if you don't think it was worth it's cost reurning it for a full
refund.
Before you buy make sure your set doesn't already have a 8VSB tuner
built in (it's easy enough to tell, usually one of your coax connectors
on the back will be labled "DTV IN" ) If you already have an 8VSB tuner
all you need is a antenna and you're good to go.

A better choice is the LG4200a that has NTSC, ATSC, QAM (for cable)
reception and it's a 4th generation tuner APX $170 at Circuit City. The
Walmart tuner does not support NTSC or QAM, it's a later model 3rd
generation tuner, and it's $198 at Walmart..

Is this an in store only item. The only LG HDTV receiver that CC lists
on their website is the LST3510A, which is also a DVD player.

I have to agree, that looks like a much better choice. I didn't know
Circuit City stocked this item. Is the LG4200a a 4th generation tuner?
Circuit City also has a relaxed return policy.

I don't think people should buy something with intent on returning it
and I never said that, but $200 is quite a bit, so it's nice to have
that security of being able to return something you aren't happy with.
If it's a retailer's policy (CC and Walmart included) to give refunds
when a customer is unhappy with something, then I see that as the same
as allowing customers the right to evaluate products. Retailers have
these policies in place so they can gain a competitive edge. Customers
should make use of them.
and I'm willing to bet that at least one out of (say five) customers
that buy a 8VSB tuner for this purpose will keep it, if the other four
return it the product has to be returned within the guidelines of the
retailers return policy (which usually states the product has to be in
resalable condition -or- like new condition), so the retailers still
gain off of this.
Again, I'n not advocating using retailers are free rental.

Are you sure of that price on the LG 4200A at Circuit City. If that is
correct, I am going to buy one and give it a try.

FYI: Make sure your local FOX affiliate is broadcasting in HD.
Some can't.

My TV has built in tuners (ATSC and QAM) but I still can't get Fox. Even
with the tuners you need an antenna and a way to get the signal. I live
in an area with lots of mountains and don't have good access to the signals.

You need to see what kind of antenna will be required in your area. I think
I would be unpopular with my neighbors if I installed the 30 ft antenna
that is needed on my townhouse!
