Hello,
I am currently at a friends house using my cable and his switch to connect tot the internet, i have done this a few times with the same equipment and ive never had trouble.
Now everything is connected and i am not getting access to the internet, BUT if i repair the connection i get a connection for a bout 2 secs every time, wich is how i got here (painstakingly slow). So basically if a spam repaor my connection ill have permanent internet :P
So it's clear to me the connection is there and working only i cant seem to connect to i, only for short periods of time

If anyone has any ideas it would be greatly appreciated, I am using windows Xp SP2 connecting to A dlink DES - 1500S Switch

If it's a dumb switch that you can't configure and your computer works fine when not using the switch then it is most likely a busted switch. A switch is like a traffic cop just directing the data. If the lights for the port your using aren't blinking it's a dead giveaway.

It could also be the way he wired the internet up is he using a router to share his connection from the modem or does he have a gateway. He could have wired his modem to the switch which would only allow one computer on the net at time or the modem is checking the mac address so that only the certified computer is allowed through.
