We implemented power saving software on 1500 computers. Several computers varying in make and model, including varying NICs, will not run group policies to map network drives upon logging in from a computer that was brought out of standby.
Several events are logged at the time of login. They are Event IDs 1054, 1053, 15, 1000 to name a few. If the user logs out, then back in the drives are mapped. Or, if they reboot, the drives are mapped.
In Device Manager for the NICS, the checkboxs are checked to allow the computer to shut off the NIC to save power and bring it out of standby. I have also tried unchecking the boxes and the same issue occurs.
It seems as if the NIC is not connected prior to trying to run the group policies.
The issue ended up being that Spanning Tree Portfast was disabled on the ports on the switches, which should be for best practice. So, I have to decide whether or not to keep the power saving software on the computers or not. Thanks.
Thank you for the reply. I have tried unchecking the checkbox for the NIC to not allow computer to turn this device off and when it is unchecked, the feature for allow this device to bring the computer out of standby goes away. I really want to use that feature for patching and other reasons, so I don't believe unchecking the box is an option. I did enable portfast and that did solve the issue, however, I don't believe that is what we are going to do as a solution. I will probably end up scheduling a shutdown and restart. Many thanks again for your reply.
