I've looked around but can't seem to find any info about my specific problem; I'm not that surprised, it's a weird one.

For some reason, my speakers have stopped playing any sound from the internet. CDs play fine, files stored onto my comp work, etc but no sound from any website. I tried windows IE and Firefox and neither one will play sound.

It's a HP Pavilion a1410n with 5.1 surround sound speakers, running windows XP with service pack 2 and realtek audio if that helps. Thinking that it happened shortly after an update of something (not my comp, belongs to a friend): could it be the codexes or the reg?

Any ideas would be a great help.

I'm assuming you use windows media player. You probably are missing codecs. Your hardware obviously works. There's not much else it could be.
