Sharp SL-C860 questions

I'm drooling over the Sharp SL-C860. I've seen it availiable for sale
in 2 places: Dynamism.com and Japan-direct.com . The former charges
$150 more, but they do the OS conversion for you; the latter
apparently gives instructions for you to follow to do the conversion
yourself.

My question, then, is has anyone here bought the SL-C860 from
Japan-direct, and followed the directions? how long did it take to do
the conversion yourself? were the instructions adequate? did you
encounter any unexpected difficulties? would you have paid the extra
$150 to have had it done for you?

Also, as long as I'm shopping around, have you seen it for sale
cheaper anywhere else? Prefferably at a retailer, because I'm
extremely wary of getting a high-ticket item like that from Ebay or
the like.
