Pc not starting

hi there
i have a dell vostro 1510 with xp sp2 installed.when i start it only the wallpaper comes and nothing else.but mouse is still controllable.when i start it in safe mode the user icons are displayed and when i click it,it again returns to the username display page.
plz tell me wat to do .i dont want to format it as it contains a lot of mine important documents .

Try a fix at Kellys Korner:

Scroll down to line 195 right hand side "Restore Desktop Icons and Taskbar".

Save the VB Script to a place you can get to, once downloaded double click to run.

This fix is for XP operating systems.

alt del ctrl not working .theres nothing besides the wallpaper . is it a virus problem??

Try using Ctrl + Shift + Esc

Then click on "New task" and type in:

explorer.exe

how can i click start when thers no taskbar.i also tried to repair the os but still then its in the same position.but cant u tell me why safe mode not working?? or the whole system has gone corrupt.
