I grabbed one at Wal-Mart and I am mildly pleased with what I got.

There is no "OTA Cable" in the Baltimore so I am using this to receive
the local digital stations.

(These boxes were designed to receive cable channels like HBO, CNN, etc
broadcast on Over-The-Air digital subchannels by subscription. Only
three markets have this service so far.)

Sensitivity and picture are quite good. I like that it displays the
Program and System Information Protocol (PSIP) info in the program guide
where available -- something my Dish 6000 does not do.

The box and manual makes claims about "DVD quality" probably referring
to the standard video output (RCA and S-Video). The hi-def is true hi-
def.

I cannot figure out how to set the internal clock. I *assume* it is
supposed to come from an OTA signal but I don't know. Right now it is
about 14 hours behind making the program guide a pain. Moving ahead in
the guide is a slow process.

The manual carefully avoids the words "Dolby Digital". There is an
optical audio output and the claim is "decodes AC3 audio". It is not
PCM and my Dolby receiver does not recognise any signal. Bottom line:
stereo audio out.

Looking inside, there are three circuit boards (Power, tuning, main
board) and a lot of open space. There is no card reader behind the card
slot. The USB connector is intriguing. Manual says "future use". I am
going to pick up a USB A/A cable just to see what I can see.

Something tells me that the is hacking potential in these receivers, but
that is for smarter minds than mine.
