After the press releases today suggesting no support for XP SP2 including update to SP3, I am wondering if between now and July 2010 I should download all the updates for my XP Media Center 2005 SP2 CD, and store them on a DVD to have updates backed up.
Downloaded XP SP 3 CD image today.
Is this a viable option where could I go to make sure I had everything?
Am I misreading the reports and Microsoft will continue to support updates for reformated computers via-auto update?
Sorry if I am come off as an alarmist... instead I am a non-technical control freak that wants to be prepared just incase XP support is less than expected.
downloading the SP2 and 3 files is a good idea, I turned off the updates a long time ago as MSFT updates and hotfixes seem to make XP not operate, I have a SP3 disk that I keep archived amd update to that, then turn off the updates and hot fixes and it seems to operate as good as can be expected
I have not found updates to cause any problem with my system. As a non-techincal (enough to get in trouble not enough to get myself out ) I always assumed the updates "are important".
