First time builder troubles? bad motherboard? HELP ASAP

Ok im building a new system for someone. ECS-K8M800-M2, AMD SEMPRON 3000+ SOCKET 775(GO NEWEGG), WD 80 GB, KINGSTON DDR333 12MB, LG CD BURNER. everything is new except the burner. for some weird reason i turn it on and it shuts off after about 5 seconds. checked all connections. replaced power supply, because it was a cheapo anyway. checked jumper settings. cpu fan spins up. im straight baffled. bad cmos battery possibly? OMG PLEASE HELP! any help would be greatly appriciated

p.s comp usa has a 430w cooler master extreme power supply for 40.00 bucks with a 15.00 mail in rebate = 25.00 sweet

The usual cause for a fast shutdown is the heatsink is not making a good seal. Take it off, clean off both faces and apply new thermal grease.

BTW, ECS is junk.

that worked great. thanks. i put the whole tube on the cpu lmao, but i cleaned with alchohol and reapllied a lil dot and works great now
