Microsoft Fax

I have been using Microsoft Fax in XP for years. It now loses its driver when there is a Microsoft downlooad., and the only way to correct this is to do a Microsoft Component Fax uninstall/reinstall, and then have to reset up the program with the cover . This is a problem when traveling and cannot access the fax. Is there some fix to why the drivers or other components dissapear. I have actually placed tha copy of I386 file in a separate file, since often the install could not find it in the Micro. file.

Does Fax and Scan in Vista have a similar problem?

Please help with a resolution.
