I am running Avast 5 and am wondering if Malwarebytes is ok to run along side, but not at the same time? I read somewhere that One can go to msconfig and disable most of the services instead of running Malwarebytes in Safe Mode. I can't use networking in safe mode because for some reason it won't see the router. Should I stop Avast 1st or does it matter? Any input appreciated!

You can run both at the same time with no issues. Avast is a real time antivirus software, while malwarebytes is an on-demand scanner. They won't conflict. I currently run both on several of my PCs.

Even when you want to run a malwarebytes scan, you don't have to mess with Avast services.

Thanks, also what about turning off services through msconfig before scanning with Malwarebytes?

Msconfig is for disabling services on startup. If you were going to disable services, you would want to do it from start-->run-->services.msc

You don't need to turn off any services. The best way to do a malware scan, is to boot into safe mode with networking. This will only boot minimal services and programs. It also decreases the chances of malware being active when you're trying to update or run the scan.
