I was going to re-install windows vista n a Dell PC infected with virus. Would it be OK to reformat the C drive first by using the DOS command FORMAT C: at the DOS prompt and then boot up from the original Windows Vista DVD that came with the PC?

Why not boot to the Vista install disk, format and install.

The virus is preventing me from booting to the Vista install disk. So, if I reformat, it should clean out the virus, and then leave the install disk in the DVD drive, and re-start, the PC should boot from the install disk. Right?

In BIOS, the first boot device must be set to the DVD. Not sure it is.
