Provided price isn't a factor, what brand of ram should I get. I want stability and possibly some overclocking. I was thinking about Dominator but I'm not sure reviews are inconclusive.

If price is no object then buy the fastest.
If your going to OC and want the best performance vs price then look at G.Skill or Patriot.
I am still on DDR1 systems (7 that are just now a year old) and my G.skill HZ 2GB set running DDR1-520 out preforms DDR2-800 by far in Read/Write/Copy/Latency tests.
Many DDR2 users also prefer G.Skill or Patriot.
Some vrs of Kingston DDR2 are also very good when OC'ed vs price.
Quote:LOL... this is a stupid way of wasting money, but guaranteed stability.
Buy the fastest DDR 2 ram that you can find, such as ddr2 1333mhz or higher, then downclock it by 50% and you'll get very very stable ram and yet, it still offers some overclockability after the underclock.
Buy the FAST stuff....turn it down....then OC it?
Why not OC it to start with if that is the goal?!
Anyhow I am still on a 1 year old build out of 7 computers and they out preformed anything that I was able to put together at the time.
In a -some- ways they still out preform many of those built 1 yr later (today).
By the time I need to build out again I will have bypassed DDR2 altogether.
I try to think ahead and build out like the old USSR 5 Year Plan concept, except rather than reaching a goal in 5 years I try to stay usable +/- 90% by that time.
Most of my old Barton 3200+ systems that I replaced are either still playing games or used as file/torrent servers.
So.. On the little square on the RAM PCB, it says 128Mx8- 2 07l8 and nothing else, no brand. The sticker on top of the Chip says Rendition CL1117Q.3t 200720ZZ RM12864AA667.8FE 1GB DDr2 PC2-5300 NONECC DIMM. How do you determine the CLS latency and what kind of chip you're using without put it in a system to check?
