I purchased an OEM copy of Windows XP Pro, 64-bit version. I intend to use it only on a PC I am building for home use.

However, on the package (which I haven't opened) it says that the OS must be installed using the OEM Preinstallation Kit (OPK). The only way to obtain an OPK is from another vendor or from Microsoft.

Is this necessary? I'm building this PC only for myself.

Thanks in advance,

Roy

PS: I see this question has been asked here before, but the threads are several years old.

Thanks again,

R.
