I recently started getting an error at boot up saying I had an IP address conflict on my PC and I am now finding that my network settings are being changed so I can’t access the net. I keep having to run my router / hub set up disc to reset the connection.
Also in control panel I now have a new icon for an Internet Connection Gateway – I tried to delete this but I couldn’t – the error report said that it could only be changed in the advanced settings for the host computer??? The other icons are for my 2 network adapters and my 1394 connection.
My PC isn’t connected to any others only the router / hub.
My PC has two Gigabit Ethernet connectors on the mobo as well as a 1394 connection – I only use one of the Ethernet connectors. This seems to wok fine and when I have the connection problem the system tray icon for the Ethernet connection still shows an active connection even though I can’t access the net or mail etc.
I have now come across a “RAS Async Adapter” which I have never seen before and I think this might be linked to the problem. I understand this is some kind of dial up network software – I don’t use dial up just ADSL. It appears to functioning Ok in device manager I can’t seem to uninstall this as it says it is required for boot up.
I can’t tie any of this to one thing recent changes include:
· Sign up to Steam
· Installing DVD43
· Belarc advisor
Can anyone suggest a possible cause and solution?
Cheers
