Windows XP saving to D

as with most windows X.P. I Hope I have two drives: (D) and (C). My computer automatically saves everything to the D drive, and I have to change it manually. I didn't realize how much of a problem this was until recently as now my D drive is almost completely full and disc cleanup only clears a minimal amount of space. Is there any was for me to change the default save location on my computer?
