Can you boot into your profile in safe mode?

It's probably that C:\Windows\System32\Userinit.exe is corrupted or missing. Try booting into the Recovery console from a Windows XP CD and restoring it from the I386 folder on the CD.

1. insert OS disc
2. get in BIOS and make optical drive the 1st boot device
3. restart
4. press any key when prompted
5. use the r command to go to the repair console
6. there's no admin pass, so just hit enter when prompted

7. Ok you are in C:\Windows. Now lets suppose that your CD drive letter is d:
So here is what you type.
d:
cd i386
expand userinit.ex_ userinit.exe

If it shows a message like 1 file expanded or copied then type Exit and restart.

It won't be listed as 'optical.' Optical is generic for CD or DVD drive. You will need to choose the DVD drive.
