Though it is not pictured i am buying two of those gpu's to run in SLI, so that would be 512 GDDR3 memory. But even so mine only have a 128 bit memory...decisions decisions. New topic! Whats Better, the two gpu's in SLI or the LINK ABOVE???

2 GeForce 8600 GTS = 1 GeForce 8800 GTS

Dead Heat

I suppose your right even though the two 8600's have a total 512mb its only 128 bit memory (i have no clue about bit memory specs) but i assume the 8800gts's 320 bit is much better plus the empty pci-e slot means i can run 2 in sli mode in the future, makes since to me...

Here's how SLI works: 256 MB + 256 MB = 256 MB. We've had so many threads on this subject... Get one 8800 GTS 320 MB, it's a much better idea. Get the 640 MB version if you have a resolution of 1680x1050 or better.

Thanks for posting the screen. Here's my suggestions:

Ditch the 2x 8600GT's and get ONE 8800 GTS 320MB or 640MB version. 2X8600GT's does not equal one 8800GTS. But even if it did, why the fark would you want TWO when you can get the same performance with ONE? Plus higher end cards hold their value longer (important if you want to resell it eventually on eBay).

Ditch the nVidia motherboard and get you a P35 based motherboard. This way when Penryn is released all you'll need to do is a BIOS flash. P35 mobo's are 45nm ready. Sure beats replacing a whole motherboard if you ask me. And P35 mobos are going for the same price.

SLI is a waste of money. And that's coming from someone (me) who used to have 2x 7800 GTX's in SLI.

Thanks a million! i will follow instructions, no one really gave me advice on the mobo yet, not quite sure what you meant but once i build i think i'll realize it...

With the exception of the Intel P35 chipset, no chipset out there will be able to support Penryn because none are capable (to my knowledge) of the higher FSB speed of 1333Mhz. And even those that are won't be flash upgradable to Penryn.

Anyways, all you really need to know is that a P35 based motherboard gives you a great upgrade path to future Intel processors. Anything nVidia or ATI has to offer doesn't. I would personally recommend this particular mobo:

It's inexpensive and MSI makes good boards. It's a little light on features, but like i already said SLI is waste of money.

The asus p5n32-e is fine and will handle 1333fsb and beyond. I would however purchase the retail version and not an open box OEM.

The asus p5n32-e has more USB & 1394 headers than you will ever need, dual gigalan and fan headers out the wahzoo. It's been on the market for a year and has a mature bios. It has two 16 lane PCIe slots for your sli - which is not a waste of money, btw.

The P35 boards suggested offer you no value above the p5n32-e. (DDR3? Gimmee a break...the 'recommended' mobo don't even have it - nor do they have sli) See Tom's Pipe Dreams: Six P35-DDR3 Motherboards Compared from last week. When you decide to buy that second 8800gts in six months (Merry Christmas to you!) and run your sli on that p5n32-e you will wipe the floor with those P35 boards and their single 8800gtx's.

And if you can refrain from *pulling the trigger* on that 'Checkout' for a little over a month you will be able to purchase a e6750 @ 2.66GHz 1333 fsb for $183 on July 22 to install on that p5n32-e

:)
